The MMA and Thai Jiu-jitsu programs are geared at the grappling art that teaches ground control utilizing such positions as the guard, the mount, side control and back control. Once in these positions, an opponent can submit him or her with a submission that usually utilizes a joint manipulation such as an arm bar, kimura, or key lock.
Kickboxing
Our Kickboxing program teaches proper stance and striking from all angles including correct punching techniques (boxing skills), correct kicking techniques and other striking including knees and elbows. These techniques are continuously practiced with combinations on focus mitts, Thai pads, kick pads and heavy bags. In addition to developing and honing these skills, the sparring aspect of the classes will have supervised and controlled sparring that will develop speed, flexibility and athletic coordination.
Kickboxing is a sporting martial art very similar to boxing, except for the fact that it uses both arms and legs for striking. It can be practiced either as a full-contact combat sport or for general fitness. While the term refers to various forms of combat sports, it is generally associated with Japanese and American kickboxing. The term was introduced by Osamu Noguchi, a Japanese boxing promoter. Wrestling and Core Conditioning
Core conditioning is the principal strength and conditioning program for many police academies and tactical operations teams, military special operations units, champion martial artists, and hundreds of other elite and professional athletes worldwide.
The Montreal MMA Training Center program delivers a fitness that is, by design, broad, general, and inclusive. Olympic athletes, Combat specialists, outdoor survival, many different calibre of sports, and life, reward this kind of fitness.
The Core conditioning program is designed for universal scalability making it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience. We scale load and intensify; we don’t change programs.
HISTORY OF MMA.
While different forms of unorganized, no-rules, unarmed combat predate history, civilization, and even the human species itself (even apes fight hand-to-hand), the earliest documented, organized, minimal-rules fighting event was the ancient Greek pankration, which was introduced into the Olympic Games in 648 B.C. Greek pankration later inspired the more violent Etruscan and Roman pancratium, an event showcased at the Roman Colosseum. Even as late as the Early Middle Ages, statues were put up in Rome and other cities to honor remarkable pankratiasts of Rome.
No-holds-barred events reportedly took place in the late 1800's when wrestlers representing a huge range of fighting styles, including various catch wrestling styles, Greco-Roman wrestling and many others met in tournaments and music-hall challenge matches throughout Europe. In the USA the first major encounter between a boxer and a wrestler in modern times took place in 1887 when John L. Sullivan, then heavyweight world boxing champion, entered the ring with his trainer, Greco-Roman wrestling champion William Muldoon, and was slammed to the mat in two minutes.
